Our topsoil is composed of five parts local topsoil and one part leaf compost. It is passed through a one inch screen to filter out larger particles such as rocks and sticks.

Our topsoil is stored under a shed to protect it from inclement weather.

$18/cubic yard        $12/half cubic yard

Coverage: One yard of topsoil covers an area 9 x 12 three inches deep.
(See the Materials Calculator on the side to find out how much you need)

Weight: 1 cubic yard of topsoil weighs approximately 2,200 pounds.
Most standard pick-up trucks (ex. F150) or single axle 5x8 trailer can hold one yard because of the weight.

  • Leveling yards
  • Filling a shallow hole (1 foot or less. See Fill Dirt for deeper)
  • Grass; though you need to add lime and fertilizer. (see Half & Half for grass or 2 to 4 mix)
  • Top dressing for septic systems

When planting grass, the suggested depth of loose soil for a healthy root system is 6-8 inches.
If you are adding a topsoil to existing dense soils, such as clay or other compacted dirt, consider tilling the first several inches and then adding a top dressing with a topsoil or custom grass mix prior to planting.
